Photofacials – Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)
Hagerstown Dermatology and Skincare NOW OFFERS Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Photofacial treatments to improve the appearance of redness & flushing, acne rosacea, irregular pigmentation, and fine facial lines.
As we age fine facial blood vessels and irregular areas of hyperpigmentation often appear on facial and non-facial skin exposed to sunlight.
IPL treatments are non-invasive and can help your skin on your face, neck, chest, arms and legs look rejuvenated and it will bring back that healthy glow. Your skin will look younger and refreshed after a couple of treatments.
In addition, photofacials can help even the skin from acne inflammation and help to shrink down pores resulting in less acne breakouts. Please call our office for a complimentary consultation.
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Informational
Intense Pulse Light (IPL) technology is used to treat a number of concerns on your face, neck, chest or hands.
This treatment is simple, completely safe, and comes with minimal downtime.
IPL can be used to reduce and even erase any of the following:
- Freckles
- Irregular pigmentation
- Redness or flushing
- Sun damage
- Age spots
- Spider veins
- Enlarged pores
- Wrinkles around the eyes, lips and forehead
How does the treatment work?
IPL filters light from various parts of the light spectrum into your skin. The intense light applied to the targeted area dilates your pigmentation.
The light penetrates the skin—without any damage, of course— and the heat activates the body to begin a natural healing process. The lesions in the treatment area will darken and flake off if your body doesn’t just absorb it.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
Five treatments are recommended, scheduled about 4-6 weeks apart from each other. To maintain results, consider a follow-up session once a year after initial process.
What Is Treatment Like?
Expect your visit to last as long as 45 minutes. But some treatment, depending on the target area, can only take about 15-to-30 minutes.
Your skin is cleansed and then lathered with a cold tracking gel. An IPL hand-piece will be used to administer pulses of light to your skin. Topical anesthesia is used to reduce the slight sensation.
Sunscreen is applied when the treatment is over. You may experience what feels like a mild sunburn for up to 24 hours following your visit—but nothing ice packs can’t cure.
Are There Any Possible Side Effects to IPL Treatment?
In very rare cases, there may be some swelling or blisters.
Crusting and flaking is normal, but you never want to pick at the areas.
What Improvements Will I See?
Your skin will feel far smoother following every session.
There will be a gradual decrease in redness, flushing, irregular pigmentation, fine lines, broken capillaries, and pore size.
You will also notice a more even skin tone.
